When you finance your insurance premium with NatPrem, you're sharing sensitive information: your personal details, financial data, driver history, and insurance documents. You need to know that this information is protected. Here's exactly how NatPrem keeps your data safe.
What Data Does NatPrem Collect?
To originate and service your premium finance agreement, NatPrem collects:
- Personal Information: Your name, address, phone number, email, and date of birth
- Business Information: Your business name, business structure (LLC, sole prop, etc.), EIN, years in operation
- Financial Information: Bank account details (for payment processing), income, credit profile
- Insurance Information: Policy number, premium amount, coverage details, carrier name, effective dates
- Loan Information: Down payment, financed amount, payment schedule, terms
- Driver & Vehicle Information: Driver license numbers, vehicle VINs, USDOT number (if applicable)
What NatPrem does NOT collect: Full credit card numbers (never), social security numbers directly (only for credit checks), or any information beyond what's necessary to underwrite and service the loan.
Encryption: How Your Data Is Protected in Transit and at Rest
Data in Transit (Moving Across the Internet)
Every time you submit information to NatPrem — whether through our website, a form, or a payment portal — that data travels over an encrypted connection. Specifically:
- TLS 1.3 Encryption: All data transmitted between your browser/device and our servers is encrypted using TLS 1.3 (Transport Layer Security), the same standard used by banks and financial institutions.
- HTTPS Protocol: Our entire website runs on HTTPS, which you can verify by the green lock icon in your browser's address bar (natprem.com shows a secure connection).
- No Unencrypted Transmission: We never send payment information, account details, or personal data via unencrypted email or insecure channels.
Data at Rest (Stored on Our Servers)
Once your data is stored in our systems, it remains encrypted:
- Database Encryption: All customer loan records, payment history, and personal information are encrypted at the database level using AES-256 (Advanced Encryption Standard), military-grade encryption.
- Server-Level Protection: Our servers are hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), which provides additional physical and network security, automated backups, and disaster recovery.
- Access Controls: Only authorized NatPrem staff members can access customer data, and access logs are audited regularly. Employees with access sign security agreements and undergo background checks.
- No Shared Data: Your data is never shared across different customer accounts or mixed with other loan files.
Compliance: TDI Regulations & Borrower Protections
NatPrem is licensed by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) as an Insurance Premium Finance Company under Chapter 651 of the Texas Insurance Code (License No. 3036548). This license requires us to follow strict regulations designed to protect you.
What TDI Licensing Means for You:
- Regulatory Oversight: The Texas Department of Insurance regularly audits NatPrem's practices, books, and compliance. We must maintain detailed records of every loan, every payment, and every customer interaction.
- Transparent Disclosures: Every finance agreement must clearly disclose the finance charge, annual percentage rate (APR), payment schedule, default terms, and your rights. No hidden fees or surprise terms.
- Consumer Protections: TDI regulations protect you from predatory practices. Rates, terms, and default procedures are regulated. You have the right to review your agreement, ask questions, and understand the cost before signing.
- Complaint Resolution: If you have a complaint about NatPrem, you can file a formal complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance. We must respond and work toward resolution.
Key TDI-Protected Rights You Have:
- Right to receive a copy of your signed finance agreement
- Right to know the exact finance charge and APR before committing
- Right to prepay your loan without penalty
- Right to receive an accurate payment statement each month
- Right to dispute errors or unauthorized charges
- Right to file a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance
Rule of 78s: Fair Interest Calculation
NatPrem uses the Rule of 78s method to calculate finance charges. This is a regulated, standardized method that ensures you're charged fairly no matter how long your financing period is.
Why Rule of 78s?
The Rule of 78s front-loads interest (you pay more interest early in the loan, less later). This protects both parties:
- For you: If you prepay early, you pay less total interest. The longer-term loans don't unfairly charge short-term borrowers.
- For lenders: The lender's risk is concentrated upfront when default is most likely.
Example: On a $4,500 loan financed over 12 months with a 5.5% APR:
- Total finance charge: ~$250
- First month interest: ~$22
- Last month interest: ~$1
- If you pay off after 6 months: You've paid ~$127 of the total $250 charge, not $125 (so 50% of finance charge, not 50% of total payments)
This method is verified to the penny and audited annually to ensure accuracy across all loans.
Payment Security: Safe Online Transactions
Your Payment Information is Never Stored by NatPrem
When you make a payment online, NatPrem does NOT store your bank account numbers, credit card numbers, or payment details. Instead:
- Third-Party Payment Processing: Payments are processed through Stripe or similar PCI-DSS compliant payment processors (PCI-DSS = Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard). These processors are specialized in secure payment handling and are audited by third parties.
- Tokenization: After a payment is processed, we store only a token (a random identifier), not your actual payment information.
- Automatic Monthly Payments: You authorize ACH payments from your bank account directly. We securely store only the authorization, not the account number itself.
How to Verify Payment Security:
- Look for the SSL certificate indicator (green lock + "secure" label) when entering payment information
- Never share card details via email or phone — NatPrem will never ask for your full card number through unsecured channels
- Review your monthly statement for accuracy; report any unauthorized charges immediately
Data Retention & Deletion
How Long Does NatPrem Keep Your Data?
- Active Loan Period: While your loan is active, we maintain complete records (required by TDI)
- After Loan Payoff: We retain records for 7 years (required for tax compliance and regulatory audit trails)
- After 7 Years: Inactive loan files are securely deleted from active systems and archived
Your Right to Request Deletion
You can request deletion of your personal information after your loan is paid in full, subject to regulatory requirements. Contact NatPrem at Oscar@NatPrem.com or (214) 586-3155 to request data deletion or review your record.
Third-Party Vendors & Service Providers
NatPrem uses select third-party vendors to operate our business:
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP): Hosting and infrastructure (with their own SOC 2 compliance certifications)
- Payment Processor (Stripe): Payment processing (PCI-DSS Level 1 certified)
- Email Service: Email delivery and transactional messages (encrypted, secure)
- Backup & Recovery: Automated backups and disaster recovery (encrypted, redundant)
All vendors sign Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) that require them to:
- Treat your data as confidential
- Use your data only for the purpose agreed
- Implement their own security measures
- Report any security incidents to NatPrem immediately
- Delete or return your data when requested
NatPrem does not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your loan information, payment history, or financial data with marketing companies, data brokers, or any external entity except as required by law or to service your loan.
